We have had a new background artist on the team for quite some time now and for this update I will be sharing some of his amazing work!
A room inside Ceres has been reimagined with tanks of liquid
and ventilation underneath them.
and ventilation underneath them.
Much like AM2R, the background for areas near the surface may be open
to view the outside world of Crateria!
to view the outside world of Crateria!
Pink Brinstar's backgrounds now feature more prominent
spires and spores can be seen growing in the background.
Some other new updates include a small environment change. In Metroid: Zero Mission the area surrounding Wrecked Ship was decorated with green rocks. This will carry over to FSMR as well, tying the two together more closely for a bit of continuity.
This post isn't as large of an update as I had hoped it would be but I wanted everyone to know there is still progress being made on FSMR, it has slowed down some but hopefully once everything that is happening in the world dies down some progress will pick back up.
Stay safe everyone, and thank you for continuing to keep watch on FSMR's progress!

Always glad to get any update! And this is looking really good! Those backgrounds are fantastic (the foreground environments too), and y'all are nailing the atmosphere. And I'm super into upping the continuity with ZM.
ReplyDeleteWe're all excited for more news, but there's no pressure for you folks even normally, let alone at a wild time like now. Hope y'all and y'all's loved ones are all doing alright. Thanks for the update; take care of yourselves!
If you were to guess what percent FSMR is for being compete. About what percent would that be from 0% to 100%?
ReplyDelete8%
DeleteGuesstimation:
Delete13-16%
If the main mechanics are figured out[aside from revising it to make it the best it can be] then that takes at least 25% of the major work. Map-wise, you simply need time, not a lot of testing to see if something works-- just if something looks good.
I LOVE How this remake is looking so far, Astounding Job!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I stuck around the last 3 days. Looking lit.
ReplyDeleteI can feel the environments. No objections about the crateria background inside the caverns. It looks bigger than it did in the original. It feels momentous-- like the caverns are more expansive than just a trail-- a whole cave to enjoy looking at. While you explore for the bosses, you can take in the sights.
Beauty is just as important as story-- if anything says 'This is a large planet,' it's seeing the unreachable backgrounds and thinking "This place is way too cool to leave, I'll take a moment to gaze upon the glorious statue of the chozo!"
Could even include a subtle reference to the Chozo Trials, of which Samus Aran obtained her virtue[the ability to summon the fully-powered suit.]
A statue of the tester in the background? Aw, that can be less blatant and more subtle than just including it, though regardless-- backgrounds. Environmental storytelling-- what's happening as you play? Is there a story you believe is occuring at the same time as the main story? AM2R succeeded by having an engaging community still figuring out the stories AM2R has told. Never giving up the ending, and getting the player to think and explore the planet to come to a conclusion to every subtle plot device. Like "Why" did the chozo go extinct?
I'm fantasizing. I'll take my leave, and as always:
See you next update.
Oh, you are alive!!
ReplyDeleteThank goodness :D
End of May, Pre-June post.
ReplyDeleteBeen stalking the updates lately and I gotta say it's a refresher while I do what I do. Whazzup that soundtrack we can hear already, even when nobody has heard the bass drop yet?
Can we have this on the 3ds as a cia or homebrew file when it releases I'd love to be able to play it on my 3ds as the metroid games on the 3ds kinds suck but this this looks amazing
ReplyDeleteChances are, it runs on an engine too powerful or simply not compatible with homebrew. We can hope for it, but something this good looking could be impossible to homebrew, or just tedious to port to an engine that works.
DeleteHow can I help with this project? Are there programming positions open? :)
ReplyDeleteI don't know, but is there a set end date or a rough estimation of some kind of time frame? I know these take a lot of hard work and love.
ReplyDeleteWill the interior of the Wrecked Ship look closer to its Super Metroid appearance, or its cameo in Zero Mission? The green area below Chozodia, specifically.
ReplyDeleteWhy am I waiting and never checking in?
ReplyDeleteWhy because I like waiting.
But I see a picture and it makes everyone smile.
Este juego promete :)
ReplyDeleteSark, you're doing great work, and if you do even a half-decent job I'm sure that the internet will be impressed. Its not often that someone tries to revamp a game as perfect as Super Metroid, and I commend your bravery and diligence on staying with the project. Hopefully the boys in the land of the rising sun won't decide to cuck this project near completion just like so many others.
ReplyDeleteWish you well, you brave lad.
Thank you, really thank you, thank you very much for that because nowadays the Super metroid is the worst metroid, while the others are from Gba, 3ds ... and I have a problem with the slowness of the Super metroid and obviously this will be solved in Pc Fan game. I think that all fans should know about the existence of this project and how it will make the game less fucking in one of the most fucking FAN GAMES of all time. I will make a version of Super metroid for Gba myself someday, I will definitely be inspired by your work. You are LEGENDS.
ReplyDeleteWell said
DeleteBeautiful! It is a wonderful job they are doing.
ReplyDeleteSpooky Scary 'Velopment brings patience through the gears, people waiting anxiously for playable beta cheers.
ReplyDeleteyo reviso esta página religiosamente solo para poder ser el primero en enterarme de una nueva actualización
ReplyDeletebro, please dont give up on this. theres been no update since april and im getting worried...
ReplyDeleteyo rezo porque en este mes nos den una sorpresita
DeleteWe have patience on our side.
Delete2021's first month has nearly passed. Without news to celebrate, one has to wonder. Is the developer alright? Anyway, checking in, checking out. Eager.
ReplyDeleteDon't give up no matter what!
ReplyDeleteCheck please.
ReplyDelete😁
ya estamos en Marzo y Nintendo no se inmuta por el 35 aniversario...solo espero algún avance del progreso que ya lleva esta obra maestra
ReplyDeletei'm so sad. its been almost a year. i actually have a BS in software development now. let me know if you want some help.
ReplyDeleteor if the project is dead... :(
It's been a hopeful run. And I am still going.
ReplyDeleteIt's not dead, Sarks just keeping us in suspense! :P
DeleteI hope...
Sneaky....changing the banner to show progress... i like
ReplyDeleteI thought I was imagining things for a sec when I saw that!
DeleteWe're being subverted, I like the sounds of that.
ReplyDeleteSip
DeleteDon't mind me, just casually visiting the nostalgia car on the train. Next stop: Tomorrow.
ReplyDelete(Commentus withdrawnus because Adam said it's his turn on the Nostalgia Train and he didn't authorize the use of Hype Beam.)
ReplyDeleteI don't know how long that things will stay this way, but it'll be fine in the end.
ReplyDeleteIs that banner new? I swear it was something else just a couple days ago
ReplyDeleteYeah the banner was updated to this new one around the end of April I believe.
DeleteI guess I'm just desperate for something new... Well, hopefully there'll be something
DeleteYeah for sure. At least we'll have Dread to tide us over soon!
ReplyDeleteSo true, i just hope there will be more diversity in the environment/enemies in Dread than there were in Samus Returns
DeleteI think there will be, especially the closer to the surface of ZDR you get. Mercury Steam kinda had one hand tied behind their back with samus returns too because it was a remake so they only had so much freedom creatively. Can't wait to see what they can do with an all original game!
DeleteFiftieth comment and having thoughts ever since Dread was finally confirmed.
ReplyDeleteis this still going ir did it die?
ReplyDeleteWhile there hasn't been an actual update in some time. The banner at the top of this page was updated to a new one about a month or so ago so not dead yet, just a lul for now I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteHey, I've been watching this blog and i can't wait till this game comes out, though i want to ask the developers some questions, as i have some ideas for the game to tie it with zero mission more and give some ideas of my own.
ReplyDeleteIf any of the developers want to chat with me, reply and i'll be right on board
Side note: y'all could also contact me on discord, my name is
DeletemetroidbattleSR388#7923
Rumor has it, once you collect eight metroid eggs, you can invoke the developers to grant you one wish.
ReplyDeletehow can i do that( if it's even possible )?
Deletethough in all seriousness, i'm desperate to get my ideas across, provided fsmr is even finished.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Deletei'll point out some ideas that could be pretty prominent for the lore between zero mission and super metroid ( which could get into this game ) i'll list them:
ReplyDelete1: my presumed explanation for why we never see the mothership in super was because it's the purple areas in maridia, let me explain. after the mothership occurred the ground around the mothership weakened, which would've exposed the underwater lake that was directly bellow the mothership, and after some time of erosion because of the rain and large cave collapse occured that would cause the remains of the mothership, some remains of chozodia, and much of the ground around it to sink into the lake, this would trigger a sub earthquake that would emerge the wreck ship from the ground and effect much of the eastern side of crateria, we could see hints of this in FSMR.
this brings into another suggestion, having the wrecked ship be larger and if possible have it stretch into the parts of chozodia that weren't dragged down with the mothership.
The cave collapse that dragged the mothership down would've brought it directly above where original brinstar was located, during this time the space pirates would've been rebuilding their base on zebes already, so in order to get rid of the original brinstar, they flooded the caverns of brinstar with the underground water, basically submerging the original brinstar. if possible we could see and possibly enter rooms that we're in the original brinstar.
this last suggestion doesn't have to be implemented but its pretty interesting idea, i'm suggesting to add a log feature that reveals information about the areas and bosses the player faces( and it could tell what happened to the original areas that we're in zero mission), if the player doesn't want this they could turn it off in the menu.
these are all my ideas for now, contact me and tell me what y'all think of my ideas.
opps i mistyped, i was going to type in the first paragraph " After the mothership explosion occurred the ground around the mothership weakened, which would've exposed the underwater lake that was directly bellow the mothership, and after some time of erosion because of the rain. A large cave collapse would occur which would cause the remains of the mothership, some remains of chozodia, and much of the ground around it to sink into the lake, this would trigger a sub earthquake that would emerge the wreck ship from the ground and effect much of the eastern side of crateria, we could see hints of this in FSMR.
ReplyDeleteIgnore the first paragraph in the previous message.
A year had then passed. It's a big project. Kraid awaits the end.
ReplyDeleteDid... did the background just change to the cave one? Or was it always like that and I'm just crazy?
ReplyDeleteThe new banner is really cool, glad to see this project is still alive
ReplyDeleteesta precioso y el nuevo aspecto de Samus es impresionante.....exelente trabajo
ReplyDeleteNote the Christmas picture, Brilliance knows brilliance, and it's a subtle hint.
ReplyDeleteBut, you're probably asking yourself, "Is the project abandoned?"
I don't know. I don't speak subtlety. I don't think so, and so, the avid watch continues watching, staring at the caverns of Crateria.
This looks so beautiful... I hope you're OK, and I hope this project gets finished someday.
DeleteHmm, I think Samus' head in the banner is a little too big. Maybe it's just the angle
ReplyDeleteI REALLY hope Nintendo doesn't take this down. This looks super promising!
ReplyDeleteMan i wish you good luck, can only do that! Lol
ReplyDeleteDo you have a Discord server by any chance?? 🤔

DeleteGod I hope this isn't dead. FSMR looks so cool, I hope the dev(s) are doing alright.
ReplyDeleteThere's been the odd subtle page update like the background. The Christmas banner last xmas too. not much but enough to nod that they're still around I think.
DeleteThe project seems slowgoing... Too slow-going.
ReplyDeleteAnd quiet... Too--
And what about the metroid? What of the cell cultures?
I suspect foul play.
how is the development of this game going?
